Study Title: Exercise Training for People Living with Advanced Multiple Sclerosis
Rationale: Lifestyle-based approaches, like exercise, are important for managing multiple sclerosis; however, most research focuses on people with mild to moderate disability. This study will test the feasibility of aerobic exercise training for people with MS who use wheelchairs in daily life.
Study Description: Researchers at the University of Ottawa are seeking volunteers to take part in a study looking at the potential effects of aerobic exercise for people with MS who use wheelchairs. The study will involve one screening visit (~1 hour), five testing visits (~1-2 hours each), one familiarization visit (~1 hour), and up to 24 training visits (~0.5-1 hour each). The training visits will follow a schedule of 2 sessions per week for 12 weeks. Testing and training session visits will take place at the University of Ottawa (200 Lees Avenue, Ottawa). The study is available in English only.
Starting Dates: 2026-05-01
Ending Dates: 2026-12-01
Who can participate: People living with MS who are 18 years of age or older and use a wheelchair in daily life may be able to take part. For more information about participation and other eligibility criteria, please contact the study team by email or phone. Participants will be enrolled into the study on a first-come, first-served basis.
