Study Title: Volunteers to support 1st year nursing students
Rationale: Looking for Volunteers to share their health journey
Study Description: My name is Karin Zekveld and I am a faculty member at St. Lawrence College in Kingston in the Baccalaureate Nursing program. I am teaching a first year nursing course this winter which involves our students meeting with families to learn about chronic illness and the impact on a family system. The students follow a nursing interview and assessment model to guide and structure their interviews.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions and public safety measures, we will be adapting these interviews and will be using an online platform call Teams (the Microsoft version of Zoom or facetime). The students will conduct 2 online interviews (about 45 minutes each) with their assigned family. It would be great to have multiple members of a family available, however this is not essential as long as the interviewee is able to speak with the students about their family unit in relation to a chronic illness that they or a family member is experiencing.

Our potential days for conducting the visits would be Tuesdays (February 9 and 16) or Wednesdays (February 10 and 17). The students have classes until 10:30am on these days but would be free late morning, afternoon, or early evening depending on client/family availability. We would most likely host a make-up date the following week to account for resident unavailability or student illness which would occur on February 23 and 24.
